DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN ALERT GENERATING TRANSPORT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM G. Agofure motors Nigeria Limited (GAM).

CHAPTER ONE

1.1              BACKGROUND OF STUDY

Data is a veritable resource that must be handled with great care and with a high precision this prompt organizations and establishment to find ways that can be used to make their data accurate and available when needed for use. In agreement with the above need, this project aim at developing computerized base Alert generating system for ease storage, the information handle in this project is that of land Transport department of G. Agofure motors Nigeria Limited (GAM).

This project will analyze the data collection from the organization, design the databases and it’s structures and then develop a computer Alert generating system using Quick Basic Programming Language. This will proffer solutions to the need of staff in the company, easy file system, leads to efficiency, low cost and better performances and more flexibility.

A good computer system should organize data in a progressive manner fields, records, file and data bases. The database best suited for such an organization is the relational database, which will be used in this project work.

A data is a collection of related files organized. In the manner that allows easy access, retrieval and use of that data or a database is simply an organized information readily accessible and useful. We shall discover that a database is not just a collection of files, but records in each file must allow or make room for relationship with the records in other files. For example a distributional database might contain order, records that are someway linked to their corresponding customer and project records. In this file environment, data storage is built around the application that will used the file.

In a database environment application will be built around the integrated database. Accordingly the database is not necessarily dependent on the applications that will use it. In other words, given a database new applications can be built to share the database part of the advantages of a database, is the ability to share the same data across several applications and systems. A common misconception about the database approach is that you can build a single super database that can contain all data items of interest to an organization this notion, however desirable, is not currently practicable.

The reality of such a solution is that it would take time to build such a complex database practically, most organization builds several databases each one sharing date with several information system thus, there will be some redundancy between databases. However, this redundancy is both greatly reduced and ultimately controlled.

1.2              AIMS AND OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

The aim of this project is to develop a computer base Alert generating system, in the transport management system using G. Agofure Transport Nigeria Limited (GAM) land transport as a case study.

THE AIMED ACHIEVEMENT ARE AS FOLLOW:

ü  Data creation for the transport management system.

ü  To develop Alert generating system of data storage system using quick Basic

ü  Integrating the developed Alert system with the data storage system access.

1.3              SCOPE OF THE STUDY

This project is specially designed to cover the computerization of Transport Management Alert Generating System using G. Agofure Motors Limited (GAM) as a case study. The work has the achievement of a good database method, which is effective for the purpose of proper data definition, data manipulation and good access and retrieval strategy. The application developed has user-defined security built in right down to the field level; the application can be used as a standalone application or as a multi-user network. The applications in this work track all vehicles in G.Agofure Motors Limited (GAM). It will keep records of services the vehicles provided and give easy access to such record so that when the management wants to access the information, it will be available. It will equally provide information useful queries and report.

1.4              SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The significance of this project which is Computerized Alert Generating Transport Management System is that, it addresses the general principles of good vehicle and relevant to any transport who writes in the management notes. The study will and as a new instrument for the technological advancement that greatly benefits the transport system.

1.5       PROBLEM STATEMENT

The major problem the transport industries is not knowing when a trip is deterged or cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances most often when there is delay in take off or outright cancellation of trips, the passenger is not noticed this put a lot of pressure on the management who would want to offer explanation to individual passengers. This problem would be solved by that introduction of an passenger alert system.

1.6       LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

Due to some limitation in resources such as data collection limited time, lack of materials and financial difficulties and other reasons not stated the study covers a theoretied write up on an ideal skill development in area of Alert Generating Transport System as we have mentioned early.

1.7        DEFINITION OF OPERATIONAL TERMS

Computer:-                This is an electronic machine that has the ability to accept input, data, store, process the data and finally produce the output (information)

System:-                      This is a collection of interacting, inter related or inter dependent element or unit that are working together to achieve a desired goal.

Transportation:-        This is the process of shipping or moving an item from one point to another.

Record:-                     This a unit of grouped data within a file that contains information of a specific nature.

Data Item:-                 This is a piece of raw information which has no signification value, not until it is being processed.

Data Base:-                this is a collection of data or information organized in as to make it readily accessible and useful, there are some links between record.

1.8       CONTRIBUTION FOR ICT BODY OF KNOWLEDGE

ICT which is an acronym for information communication and technology is an interconnection of standalone computer across and between institutions, and a general set of tool and skills that can be applied to a wide range of organization.

When a computer based is being develop for an Alert generating transport management system, it will have a great effect on information, communication and technology (ICT) thereby making the transport management system easier since the quality of care and to meet transport expectation.

Therefore, it will enable the ICT body of knowledge to the best expert system for the assessment and keeping up – to – date record of transport transaction
