DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A COMPUTERIZED MEDICAL DUTIES SCHEDULING SYSTEM

CHAPTER ONE
 INTRODUCTION
1.1BACKGROUND OF STUDY
Hospital is a building designed to diagnose and treat the sick, injured or dying patients. It usually has a staff of doctors and nurses to aid in the treatment of patients. Hospital works take a succeeding step. Each step has a specified duration of time and a mapped out work associated with it. The time stipulated to be utilized is to enable you cover the work load elaborately or in details. The issue of analyzing the work load and time involved in an Hospital category and distributing the work load is time intervals. For maximum knowledge, impact is a great concern to the professorate in the field. This is where comprehensive medical duties schedule is always designed to suit the curriculum.

Medical duties schedule does not only involve all capture of time duties to medical personnel, it also involve the careful allocation other resources like labor force and space available. When all these factors are not adequately taken care of, it lead to cases which hinder the effective Hospital operation.

1.2     STATEMENT OF PROBLEMS
The problem associated with the old manual system of medical duties scheduling hindered effective table predication.
The problems which this project tends to answer are
1.     There is improper keeping of record of patients.
2.     The existing system waste a lot of time. This delay in effect of set back of the Hospital operation.
3.      The manual medical duties scheduling, causes lot of problems or clashes. That is, duties clashes between Doctors and nurses, also it makes medical duties scheduling unreliable.

1.3     AIM AND OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
This study is carried out with a view of producing a computerized medical duties scheduling during manual medical duties scheduling. The new system will also produce a comprehensive and authentic medical duties schedule.
1.     To create a platform for proper keeping of data, this can be easily access at any point in time.
2.     To eliminate the barrier of time wasting and ensure the proper functioning of the hospital.
3.     To create a reliable roster on how duties is been schedule accordingly, in other to avoid clashes.

1.4      SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Several departments in the University of Nigeria teaching Hospitals Enugu have been for the past year even till date designing their Duties schedule manually.
The primary aim of this project work is to;
1.     Relief the burden and obstacle in the production of effective medical duties schedule by developing a computer program which will be timely, more accurate, more reliable and more comprehensive.
2.     To improve the service delivery of hospital staff to the patients and to eliminate self-appointment in the hospitals, thereby reducing the number of casualties.
3.      To keep hospital staffs alert, so that they will know when they are at duty, and eliminating ghost workers in the hospitals.
4.     The project will be useful to hospitals owing to the fact that it is less stressful, reliable and maintainable, it does not consume time and it is easily usable.

1.5     SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The overall goal of this work is purely investigative and prescriptive. The University of Nigeria teaching Hospital Enugu has been selected as my case study.
This work is limited to the study of medical duties scheduling system existing in university of Nigeria teaching Hospital Enugu and designing a program for its computerization. It will be able to collect staffs data and it is to be updated monthly. Also, this project will be able to provide forum for chief medical doctor to (CMD) to check their progress and how the hospital is been managed in terms of scheduling duties.

1.6            LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
At the problem definition they were unable to understand the working principle of the project but with the help of the simpler aspect of the program to be handling first while the harder aspect follows, it was successful. This project is limited in several ways, which includes; the allocation of duties can only last for one month therefore it must be updated monthly.
It was also difficult to collect data from the hospital due to unavailability of personnel. It was not easy in combining class assignments, class work, preparation of final exams and the project writing at the same time.
