CHAPTER
ONE
1.1 BACKGROUND OF STUDY
Bruner, (1996) states that the processes and culture of
education, has made a proud contribution to our appreciation of the process of
education and to the development of curriculum theory. It is surely the case
that schooling is only one small part of how a culture indicates the young into
its canonical ways. Indeed, schooling may even be at odds with a culture’s
other ways of indicating the young into requirements of communal living. It has
become increasingly clear, that education is not just about conventional school
only school matters like curriculum or stand or testing. What we resolve to do
in school only makes sense when considered in the broader context of what the
society intends to accomplish through tits educational investment in the young.
How one can conceives of education, we have finally come to recognize, is a
function of how one conceive of culture and it aim, professed and otherwise.
The roles of structure in learning and how it may be made central in teaching.
The approach taken should be a practical one. The teaching and learning of
structure rather than simply the mastery of fact and techniques, is at the
center of the classic problem of transfer. If earlier, it must do so by
providing a general picture in term of which the relations between things
encountered earlier and later are made clear as possible.
Processing perform a series of mechanical or chemical operations on
(something) in order to change or preserve it. School fees processing is the
process of payment of school fees and changing it into receipt is called the
processing of school fees. Fee collection and management is one of the critical
processes of a school.
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Below
are some of the problems encountered when carrying out student school fees processing
menacing
i.
Document stored on shelves occupies more
space in the office.
ii.
There is delay with the manual method of
school fees processing.
iii.
There is difficulty with retrieving any
lost document.
iv.
There is need for the person in question
to be present during the processing.
1.3 AIMS AND OBJECTIVE
The aim of this research study is to design and implement a computerized
school fees processing system, with the following objectives;
i.
To elimination the storage space occupied by manual
method, as opposed to electronic storage.
ii.
To fasten the processing of school fees.
iii.
To make easy retrieval of lose documents.
iv.
To make possible distance processing of school fees.
1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF STUDY
This study is aimed at designing an automated system for the payment of
student school fees in Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State and if this is
implemented, it will
i.
Bring an improvement in the school’s system of payment.
ii.
Facilitate decision making; help in reducing the
problems associated with manual and poor record keeping.
iii.
Reduce long queue of students in payment of their
school fees.
iv.
Put to an end dubious means of school fees collection
and reference to previous records in case problem occurs between students and
the school management can easily be made.
1.5
THE SCOPE OF THE STUDY
This
work is aimed at providing the easiest way of paying of students school fees
and other fees in the institution as a whole: This levels are ordinary National
diploma (NDI and ND2) Higher National Diploma.
1.6
LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
There
are conditions or factors that affected this work when gathering facts. These
conditions went a long way in limiting the intended scope of the studying. As a
result of this setback, we worked with available resources.
i.
FANANCE: During
the period of data collection and analysis; the researcher faced a lot of
finance problem.
ii.
TIME:
Because of limited time, the facts and figure collected were gotten
randomly. Secondly, the work was done
during the last semester, which is a critical time to combine the work and
academic work so my time has to be shared between the two to handle the
situation.
iii. POOR
RESPONSE: some of the staff consulted during the research
refused to disclose some of the required data due to fear.
iv.
LACK OF MATERIALS:
There was shortage of books, which is rated to the topic.
1.7 DEFINITION OF TERMS
Automated system: This is the
use of computer and machines instead of people to a job or task.
Compute: This is a general
purpose device that can be programmed to carry out a finite set of arithmetic
or logical operation.
CPU: Central processing unit.
Data: This is the collection
of facts and figures that serves as input to the system.
Implementation: This is the
method of implementing a new system.
Input: This is process of
putting information in the central processing unit through the keyboard or any
other devices.
Payment: This is the amount of
money you pay or expected to pay.
Receipt: This is a written
acknowledgement that a specified article or sum of money has been received.
School: This is an institution
of learning.
Student: this is a learner, or
someone who attends an educational institution.
Tuition fee: This is the money
you pay to be taught especially in college or university.
