1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
Globally,
Training and Development of Staff is the challenges associated with the changing
nature of work in the workplace environment which is inevitable in the private
and public sectors, to improve workforce connection, reduce global turnover and
increase efficiency across the organization, localized and globally consistent.
Employee training and development is necessary. It also can increase the
productivity of a successful business, because change is inevitable and rapid
change requires a skilled knowledgeable workforce with employees who are
adoptable or adaptive, flexible and focused on future. Presently, training have
made it possible for Western economy like USA, UK, UN, Italy, Britain etc. to
look more developed than any other African economy because of their view to
training and development in any organization. They believe and know that
without Training and Development of their workers, employees will be irrelevant
to the work they do.(www.indeed.com.2011).
In
the African continent training and development is seen to be more stressful,
time wasting and money consuming, so the shine away from playing proactive
measures towards training and development of their workers for future
challenges that it to come from the job the perform. But do to inevitable
changes that occur in Technology, politics and economic etc, they then play a
reactive measure toward employing the best hand for handling the unusual
changes within their economy. The Africans is not of the view “if you don’t
Training them, don’t blame them” that is why African continent is seen to be
behind, because the way foreign economy perceive training and development is
quite different from how an African perceive it. Western continent have a
proactive measure while African continent have a reactive measures to it.
However,
considering the Nigerian view of training and development they Nigeria economy
show a reactive measure toward training and development which must at time fall
under the following categories like management development” career
development”, Basic Skill’, “Professional skill, “Technical Training”,
“supervisory skill” and is of reactive measure to all listed above, not
proactive because they don’t see it necessary until the need for it is seen.
Nigeria don’t see it necessary but worth embarking on, but the ability to
applied proactive have not be seen in it economy, that is why the authors uses
reactive to measures the rate in which it is applied or implemented in Nigeria
private or public sector. (www.irrodi.org,
2009).
