CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
YouTube is a free video sharing website that lets people
upload, view, and share videos. Videos can be rated with a like or dislike, you
can also subscribe to channels that you like. Videos can be commented on if
logged into an account, and the number of times a video has been watched (known
as "views") is shown. Users who have accounts can also subscribe to
channels. At the moment, Google (a search engine company)
owns and operates YouTube. Many different types of videos can be put onto the
website, such as educational content, animations, and funny things. YouTube
started on February 15, 2005 by three former workers of PayPal. Jidenma, Nmachi (2011).
YouTube is based on a video sharing platform allowing a
customized upload of content by users (Almeida & Gonçalves, 2013). Usually,
the channel allows for users to keep track and manage a record of users that
view the videos. The host of the videos is created by professionals and
amateurs. Put simply, YouTube is a modern mass medium commonly used in a new
digital age landscape. Cheng & Dale (2013) give a historical account of the
establishment of YouTube in 2005 and the enormity of the bandwidth it consumes.
Perhaps, the popularity is based on its facilitation of user-created video
content. In fact, more than sixty hours of videos are uploaded by users per
minute on the platform (Wang et al., 2013). Even though the channel is limited
to the length of videos that can be uploaded, YouTube has a high rate of
adoption and use compared to similar online video services such as Vimeo, Hulu
host and a host of online video streaming platforms.
The potential of YouTube for online education has been
examined previously (Snelson, 2009). One of the obvious benefits of using
YouTube in online education is that it provides online access to vast quantities
of free public video on a broad spectrum of topics. It is a simple matter to
link to or embed YouTube videos in online course content or discussion forums.
Content management is also a benefit. Online educators can establish YouTube
channels to collect, organize, host, and distribute video. YouTube videos may
be grouped into one or more "Video Playlist Lessons," which are
created by collecting videos into a playlist then typing a lesson plan into the
playlist description area. Playlist lessons have been created to meet learning
objectives across the cognitive, affective, or psychomotor learning domains in
real-world online classrooms (Snelson, 2010a). Online educators may also create
interactive video games, simulations, or tutorials by linking videos together
through the Annotations tool on YouTube (Snelson, 2010b).
Most of the content on YouTube is uploaded by
individuals, but media corporations including CBS, the BBC, Vevo, and Hulu offer some of their material via YouTube as part
of the YouTube partnership program. Unregistered users can only watch videos on
the site, while registered users are permitted to upload an unlimited number of
videos and add comments to videos Wagstaff, (2014). Videos deemed potentially
inappropriate are available only to registered users affirming themselves to be
at least 18 years old.
1.2Statement of the Problem
The following problems were identified in the existing system at the case
study:
1.
Inability
to download videos for the youtube website
2.
In YOUTUBE for downloading user has to first
install youtube downloader for downloading video then only user can download
videos.
3.
Inability to upload mp3 songs
4.
Unable to manage both video and song services
simultaneously
1.3 Aim and Objectives of the Study
The aim of the study is to develop a youtube downloader system. The
following are the specific objectives to realize the needed aim:
i.
To design a system to facilitate viewing, uploading
and downloading videos, wallpapers, and songs on a single website.
ii.
To design a system that is able to manage user’s
profile, changing and updating his/her password on a single website.
1.4 Purpose of Study
The purpose of this study
is to determine the influence of parent teacher association in the schools
administration especially in FCAI Model Secondary school Ishiagu, Ebonyi State.
The PTA’s involvement in secondary school administration is a kind of rendering
assistance to government who always emphasis self-help development and this
association help to promote discipline among students by policies formation.
Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify the influence of PTA in
school administration.
1.6 Significance of the Study
The influence of
parents’ teacher association in the administration of secondary school is of
great importance. Quite very often, people attribute the success of most
secondary school administration to the existence of strong PTA organization in
schools.
This study is
therefore significant in the sense that, it will throw more light on what the
students, teachers, principals and the general public perceived to the
influence of PTA in the administration machinery of secondary school. Again, as
a result of its contributions the principals might see their shortcoming and
involved in a more effective approach to school administration. The result of
the study may provide reliable information on the nature of principal’s
leadership in schools, to school board of education {state and local}. From
this, they may redefine the policy on which subsequent school administration policies
will be formulated. Therefore, this would enhance effective teaching learning
and administration in our secondary schools. Other researchers might find the
influence of the study useful particularly researchers in the field of school
administration and discipline.
1.7 Definition
of Terms
In this study, the researcher will give brief definition and explanation of the
concept used.
School: This is defined as a place for
teaching and learning in a formal structure. That is, everything about a school
must be there such as chalkboard, writing desk and chairs, qualified teachers
etc.
PTA: Parents Teachers Association as the
name implied is the unionism or coming together of both parents, guidance,
teachers inclusive of pupils, student attending primary and post primary
schools of learning.
Administration: This is a social process concerned
with identifying, maintaining, motivating, controlling and unifying formally
and informally organized human and material resources with in integrated system
designed specifically to achieve an objective. But in educational context,
educational administration is a service activity through which the fundamental
objectives of the educational process may be more fully and efficiently
realized.
Discipline: This is the means where by children
are trained in orderliness of good conduct on the habit of getting the best out
of themselves all of which are essential to the well being of the school. On
the other hand, indiscipline is the opposite of discipline and it simply put
back of control.
